Youth leaders join mangrove planting to protect coastal ecosystems in Bauang, La Union

In Bauang, La Union, on October 21, students from Baccuit National High School joined hands with the community to plant 500 mangroves at Bauang Bakawan, fostering a lasting appreciation for these essential ecosystems. This mangrove enrichment and rehabilitation project, organized by the Provincial Government of La Union with support from DENR, PENRO, PNP Bauang MPS, and the Municipality of Bauang, added a meaningful touch to National Statistics Month.

Mangroves play a crucial role in stabilizing coastlines, serving as natural storm buffers, and supporting local livelihoods. For sea turtles, these coastal forests safeguard nesting sites from erosion and create safe spaces for hatchlings. The students’ hands-on involvement allowed them to learn about the vital functions of mangroves in environmental health and community well-being. Together, let’s continue to protect and nurture these natural guardians!
