A remarkable sea turtle nesting event took place in La Union, with six nests discovered in a single night on November 6, 2024, as Typhoon Marce approached. Johnny Manglugay initiated the night’s efforts by reporting a nesting turtle at Ili Norte, San Juan, where 95 eggs were safely relocated. Shortly after, Jessie Cabagbag reported a nesting turtle at Baroro, Bacnotan, La Union, which had been tagged the previous year. This turtle laid 103 eggs before being released back to the ocean.
As the team continued their patrol, they uncovered two more nests on Urbiztondo coast, each containing 95 and 103 eggs. Finally, as dawn broke, they found and secured a clutch of 113 eggs. Despite the heavy winds and rising tides, the team’s dedication ensured that these nests were protected from the storm’s destructive waves. The combined efforts of Johnny Manglugay, his team, and their loyal paw patrol partners were instrumental in safeguarding these sea turtle nests.
