Community-Led Conservation: Sea Turtle Nest Discovered and Protected in Bauang, La Union

A sea turtle nest containing 107 eggs was discovered along the beach in Bauang, La Union, by local resident Clarence Cacdac. Upon spotting turtle tracks, Cacdac immediately reported the finding to Barangay Pudoc Fisherfolk President Ricardo Navarro. In coordination with Nelson Luna from the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), the nest was safely transferred to the CURMA hatchery for monitoring and protection.

Expected to hatch around Valentine’s Day, this nest serves as a testament to the ongoing efforts of local communities in safeguarding marine life. The discovery highlights the importance of vigilance and collaboration in protecting endangered sea turtles.
